Wood & Company
With its disguised entrance and back street location, Wood & Co has the feel of a secret speakeasy only frequented by those in the know. The unmarked door is on South King Street, in between Cross Street and Deansgate. Descend the steps and you’ll find yourself in a tiled, sleek space centred on a marble bar that stretches the length of the room.
Dark leather booths and candlelight create an after-hours vibe that matches the grown-up cocktails. These are gimmick-free drinks, made properly. Go for one of the classics or ask for a recommendation – the list changes seasonally with plenty of creative variations to keep it interesting.
The tucked-away location and low-lighting might make Wood & Co seem a little exclusive but it’s not really. The atmosphere is chilled and accepting and the bartenders are a friendly bunch. They’re probably just really glad you found them. You will be too.
