The Hartington Cheese Shop

Cheesemongers
By Jo Milligan Writer

The Hartington Cheese Shop is a family-run business in a cute stone building overlooking the village duck pond. There has been a cheese shop on the premises for over 50 years so I like to pop in for a piece of Dovedale Blue or Sage Derby whenever I’m in the area and do my bit to keep the tradition going.

The shop specialises in speciality cheeses from local Derbyshire and Staffordshire artisan makers as well as cheeses from the rest of the UK. You can also pick up local small-batch gins, chutneys and beers, making it a good place for gift shopping.

Pottering around the villages and small towns of the Peak District is as much of a draw as walking through its spectacular scenery. Hartington, though small, is perfect for this.

As well as The Hartington Cheese Shop, I can highly recommend the home-made pies and pasties at The Village Stores and lunch at Hartington Farm Shop & Cafe. All the fuel you need for a scenic walk out of Hartington along Reyanrds Lane and back along the River Dove through Beresford Dale.
