Lymefield Farm Shop
Get on the Hadfield train from Piccadilly, disembark at the amusingly-named Broadbottom, and walk down the road to visit Lymefield Farm Shop, part of Lymefield Garden Centre and Cafe.
This former dairy farm first opened a shop to sell its own lamb then gradually expanded its product range, making a point of stocking local produce, and when that’s not possible, regional. Go nowadays and you can fill your wicker basket with everything from their own marmalades and jams, to quail eggs, to Mr Fitzpatrick’s cordials, to Longley Farm cottage cheese, to locally-brewed IPAs, to pure Peak District honey.
There’s also a good range of fruit and veg, homemade pies and sausage rolls, a well-stocked cheese counter, and handpicked wines. You can buy sandwiches and salad boxes to go – not a bad idea if you’re going to combine your trip to Lymefield with a walk along the River Etherow and the Broad Mills Heritage Site. The cafe is well worth the train journey too.
