Collect and Survive
Collect and Survive is only open on Saturdays but it’s worth planning your day around if you like music, and you’re prepared to have your taste questioned. Are you cool enough?
The shop – or once-a-week pop-up inside Write Blend – has been going for six years, ran by Mr Allan Deaves. You may find vinyl categories that include Indie Bollocks (sorry Ned’s Atomic Dustbin) or Christmas records described as Satan but don’t let that fool you. If you want a natter about various analogue sound systems or drum breaks, then the very personable owner will be more than happy to oblige. High Fidelity turns Mr Nice Guy.
With 8-tracks, a jukebox and all sorts of ancient bits of kit, Collect and Survive is decidedly old-school. It even offers hi-fi repairs.
Sometimes you don’t want an algorithm to lead you to Can or Television. You want to discover them for yourself, aided by a Keeper of the Vinyl and fellow music lover.
It’s a very good place for prog and metal although it’s a broad musical church.
If you buy a Keane album, do prepare to be gently ribbed.
