Alliance Française de Manchester
The Alliance Française de Manchester is the place to return to your schooldays minus the Tricolore textbooks and fixation on le babyfoot. The teachers are all native speakers and make learning French really fun – and there’s no chance of a detention if you don’t do your homework.
Small groups make getting to grips with grammar easier and it’s also good for making friends too. The class sizes tend to get even smaller as you progress through the levels and casual learners drop off.
Whether you’re committing to mastering the subjunctive or just want to learn the basics for your summer holidays in Brittany, the Alliance Française is a great place to do it.
As well as the lessons, there’s a French book club, a French film club and discussion groups. There’s also a French library which anyone can join but it’s free for French students at the Alliance. You can also access Culturetheque, the free online French library with audiobooks and on-demand videos of French films, documentaries and podcasts.
