Bar Shrimp
Bar Shrimp is the third opening from the Higher Ground and Flawd team, a seafood bar with excellent cocktails and its own ‘immersive sonic identity’. The sound system is quite something.
While you could go to enjoy drinks with friends, you’d be missing a trick because the shellfish is an absolute standout.
In the kitchen, the focus is on quality ingredients and careful cooking. Order anything other than the full house and you’re missing out. There’s a sense of occasion to a big platter or seafood balanced on high and the hand-dived razor clams with charcoal oil are unmissable. The smoked mackerel rillette with hand-cut crisps is another highlight.
Cocktails are confidently made and thoughtfully balanced, with the smoky mezcal-based After Hours a particular favourite. Wines by the glass lean towards the natural end of the spectrum, reflecting the Flawd influence.
Bar Shrimp is best approached as a place for drinks, quality music and well-chosen plates rather than a destination dinner to fill you up. Unless you can afford to order generously.
