Motley
Motley is a bar and restaurant attached to Yotel on Deansgate. With its suntrap terrace, it’s definitely not just for hotel guests. Outdoor tables are screened by planters that always seem to be bursting with life. It’s a bit of a green oasis on Deansgate’s muddle of concrete, glass and imposing Victorian brickwork.
Inside you’ll find plush velvet seating and a penchant for pink neon. The cocktails are very good. Yotel may be an international chain but the drinks are Mancunian. The Manchester Tart with its mix of specialist Didsbury Manchester Tart Gin, Martini Bianco, lemon juice and raspberry syrup is excellent and That Vimto One is another nifty cocktail with a local inspiration.
Apart from the cocktails, you’ll find all the usual beers and spirits but well done to Motley for including a range from Salford lads Seven Bro7hers along with the major drinks brands. There’s also a shortish list of red, white, rosé and sparkling wines.
Although Motley is good for cocktails (especially when the sun shines) it’s also not a bad place to plug in and get some work done. The space is light and airy in daylight hours and the booths are ideal for a bit of laptop lounging with a coffee.
Weekends are the time for bottomless brunches whilst other food options include a selection of small and large plates with influences from near and far – everything from braised ox cheek suet pudding to chicken katsu schnitzel.
