Don Tacos Bolton
Grab a booth, take away – whatever you decide, getting stuck in is definitely on the cards with Don Tacos dishes. Homemade authentic Mexican meals that taste great every single time is the promise here and the menu is divided simply between “meats” and “vegetarian”.
The cooked-to-order plates are transparently explained as grilled, barbecued and pan-cooked, and each is given a “spice sensation” description – heat wise, most are mild or medium; taste wise, “earthy and salty” ramps up to “strong chilli”. There’s plenty of lemon and lime, garlic and onions, fresh chopped herbs and the mysterious “Don Tacos secret spice mix” to pack a flavourful punch, and bright colours abound. Tender strips of chicken breast and lean beef steak are marinated for juiciness, and finger-licking is key – this is food to pick up: burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos and fajitas. The falafels are prepared the Don Tacos way – chickpeas are pummelled with corn, spring onions, parsley, coriander, chillies and citrus, then Mexican seasoning and spices are thrown in, along with dried mango for a fruity leftfield take on the veggie patty. Grilled not fried and popped into a fajita, we’re told this gives you a “satisfying taste you always remember” and is just crying out for a smothering of the homemade guacamole, soured cream and hummus on offer. Also meat-free but flavour-filled are various salads and sauces. Salsa roja uses grilled tomatoes as its base; cucumber-tomato salsa uses raw. There’s also a tangy pico de gallo of freshly chopped tomatoes, spring onions, red onion, coriander, oregano and lime, some cumin-spiked Mexican red rice and chilli-infused mashed refried beans.
If you don’t leave happily full, tingly tongued and with your top in need of a good wash, honestly? You’ve done it all wrong.
