Four & Twenty
You won’t find blackbirds baked in a pie at this Penrith bistro, but you will find a small menu of excellent local produce and some great wines. Four & Twenty is the best sort of neighbourhood restaurant. It’s friendly and intimate, the sort of place you gladly go back to time and time again, but with ambitious cooking that makes it a good choice for special occasions.
From Oriental salad of slow-cooked Gressingham duck to herb and lemon roasted chicken breast with spring vegetable and wild mushroom fricassee, white wine and tarragon sauce and – in case you thought this was all getting too high-falutin’ – cheddar cheese and truffle chips, every dish is magic.
Matching wines are available for every course and the same attention that goes into the food goes into the drinks with Four & Twenty’s own selection of inventive in-house cocktails.
Because the menu is small and seasonal it doesn’t cater for vegans, but with enough advance notice the flexible team can come up with something vegetarian especially for you.
