Holdi Woolton
Adding to the growing list of options for quality dining in the epicurean village of Woolton is award-bagging small local chain, Holdi.
Looks-wise, it’s your standard posh Indian place. Magenta neon against shiny black backgrounds. Booth seating with accents of gold. It’s the food not the decor that sets it apart. Particularly the seafood and the chef’s specials which include dishes such as Anjeer (a delicate dish made with fresh figs) and pyaz leek masala, made with, yes, leeks.
If straying from the well-worn path isn’t your thing, they have a ‘golden oldies’ selection of curries where you’ll find all the familiar favourites.
It’s an extensive menu (seven pages of dishes and counting) but there’s no evidence of quantity over quality. The emphasis in the kitchen is on fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods – a strategy that’s serving them well. Award wins so far for Holdi Woolton include ‘Favourite Restaurant’ at Liverpool Food and Drink Festival Awards, and ‘Best Takeaway’ at the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards.
