Honest Crust Sourdough Pizza Manchester
“On a mission to make really great sourdough pizza” since a pop-up in rainy Ramsbottom back in 2013, Honest Crust’s Northern Quarter outlet in the Mackie Mayor food hall is its second, sandwiched between Market House Alty and the more recent Picturedrome Macclesfield.
Proudly independent, HC fire their pizzas in a bona fide brick-built Neapolitan oven, proving the sourdough for 48 hours and using only the most outstanding cold-pressed unfiltered olive oil and hand-crushed tinned tomatoes imported from small producers in Italy along with seasonal, organic and local ingredients for the toppings. “Simplicity is the key to good pizza” is the HC mantra, so top-notch ingredients are super important.
Flavours range from a classic Margherita or Mushroom to Kale and Pancetta, Wild Broccoli and Capra, which features goats cheese, red onion and basil pesto. There’s always a specials blackboard to broaden those pizza horizons as well – think smoked pigs cheek and pecorino courtesy the Amatriciana, the fiery Atomica thanks to its n’duja sausage and staff favourite the Bianca, hosting British buffalo mozzarella and fresh garlic. Even the garlic bread gets a 21st-century twist, with cavolo nero adding extra colour.
