The Mekong Cat

Restaurant - Vietnamese

The Mekong Cat is a teeny restaurant in Stockport serving food from Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. It’s the second opening from Y Sok who is also behind the hugely popular Kambuja in Marple.

Confidentials is a big fan – it was first recommended to our team by none other than Sam Buckley from Where The Light Gets In so you know you’re in for a treat food-wise.

The Green Michelin-star chef isn’t the only one who loves The Mekong Cat’s summer rolls. It’s a highly-rated place with Stopfordians yet not much bigger than your front room so booking ahead is recommended.

Standout dishes include the rich Lao-style pho – the triple meat is a favourite but the special is also offally good if that sort of thing floats your slow boat. Accompany it with the crispy Mekong salad. Heck, accompany everything with this salad.

For vegetarians and vegans, the wide selection of dishes is outstanding. The drinks selection is a bit limited but there are some South East Asian beers which are a good pick.

The Mekong Cat is about as far away from Gordon Ramsay’s Lucky Cat as it is possible to be despite their matching feline and flavour identities. The Mekong Cat is super casual – more like a cafe than a restaurant.

With speedy service, you don’t savour a leisurely meal for hours. Instead slurp down your noodles and leave spattered with broth and filled with fond memories and authentic home-style cooking.
