The Pearl
The Pearl in Prestwich styles itself as a ‘British dining room’, but there’s plenty of French influence here too. Aesthetically, it looks like a traditional bistro, boasting only a handful of tables and decorated with rich blues and greens. While on the menu there are mosaic terrines, omelette Arnold Bennett and classical sauces done properly. It is chic but comfortable, and, even though it only opened in autumn 2023, it feels like it’s been here forever.
Head chef Matt Bennett places emphasis on locally sourced produce in his technically impressive, thoughtful cooking. Dishes change weekly but a typical starter could be Isle of Wight tomatoes with English burrata, or a main of roast Shetland cod with confit chicken, clam sauce and Exmoor caviar.
They do a steak night on Thursdays, and roast dinners on Sundays. Visit on summer evenings for al fresco drinks served out of a Tuscan-inspired wine door.
