Toast Altrincham
As Nigel Slater once said, ‘No matter how bad things get, it’s impossible not to love someone who made you toast.’ So a cafe whose concept is ‘things on toast’ was always going to find a place in people’s hearts. The Toast Altrincham menu offers toast for breakfast, toast for lunch, and you guessed it, toast for… dessert.
But it’s not as simplistic as it sounds, with head chef Eddy Carr whipping up toppings such as spiced cod cheeks, cauliflower and wakame, or asparagus, salsa verde, Gran Padano and hazelnuts on the lunch menu, and lemon curd and meringue on brioche for dessert in a twist on lemon meringue pie. They even offer a seasonal Xmas dinner on toast.
Although it’s ostensibly a cafe, the former bank is airy and accommodating with long wooden tables and high ceilings. Exposed brickwork, large potted plants and comfy velvet seating feel very Ancoats-y.
