Upstairs at the Grill

Upstairs at the Grill is a class act. It brings together the polish of a swish Manhattan steakhouse with a beautiful historic setting on Chester’s Watergate Street.

This place is a carnivore’s dream (with a token charred cauliflower for the veggies). There are aged classic steaks, whopping sharing steaks like a Butcher’s Choice board and a Tomahawk, and then the restaurant’s signature steaks.

These are dry aged on the bone in a Himalayan salt maturation chamber after being grass fed for two seasons and then finished on a diet of maize, barley and rolled oats for four months. Put it this way, this beef has been taken care of.

It’s not just the meat though, the whole operation is slick, from the impressive terrace to the excellent cocktails and the very well chosen wine list. The wine is one of the best selections in the North West and specialises in reds from the Napa Valley – an ideal partner for steak.
