Zumuku Sushi Worsley
We heart sushi and mini-chain Zumuku Sushi serves up our favourite finger food with authentic flavours and flourishes, and even brings something to the table that our non-sushi-fanboy friends might like too, from bao buns to katsu curry to poke bowls.
Chef patron Benjie Samson (who was head chef at Yo! for 10 years) insists that only the freshest ingredients make the grade, so you can be sure to trust the sushi sharing platters, chosen for you by the kitchen according to the Japanese tradition of Omakase. Individually, we have our eye on the rice-wrapped spider futomaki with soft shell crab and tobiko roe, or the Kyoto dragon, with eel, cucumber and avocado; in the sashimi corner, it’s all about the hamachi yellow tail, a much appreciated fish favourite in Japan. When in Worsley, go for the Worsley Roll, with seared beef, prawn, avocado and a cheeky wasabi mayo. On the hot dish side, gyoza dumplings with dips come in four pieces and three flavours – veggie, duck and chicken – and chicken wings are glazed and oven roasted for the “famous spicy kamikaze” option. If you’re a sucker for sticky teriyaki, you’re in for a treat, with plenty to pick from, including beef in a bun, and you’ll also find a choice of Japanese-style stir-fried noodles: udon or yakisoba.
There’s less focus on dessert, just different types of ice cream-filled mochi rice cake balls, but you’ll be back, if for nothing else but the monthly sushi school, when Benjie shares his vast knowledge on the art, techniques and history of sushi-making.
