Chicken Run

Chicken Run is a bit of an institution in Moss Side. It’s been there for years, so certainly isn’t a new viral chicken shop hit, but nevertheless you’ll still have to queue on a rainy Wednesday lunchtime.

This Jamaican takeaway is famous for its chicken split. Having tasted too many claggy cheap burger buns in our time, Confidentials knows that a dumpling is the best bread-based way to serve fried chicken. Take that, buttermilk chicken burger.

The split is a fried Jamaican dumpling filled with crisp fried chicken and lashings of salad cream. It’s not pretty and it’s not easy to eat without getting sauce all over your face but it is good.

As well as chicken splits, you can get other Caribbean classics like curry goat or saltfish and ackee but chicken’s in the name and it’s the reason for their fame.
