The Vicarage
The Vicarage sits on the banks of the River Dane, in Cranage, a village on the edge of Holmes Chapel. It’s full of old-fashioned country charm: bucolic surroundings, a wisteria-clad eighteenth century Grade II listed building, beams and roll-top baths.
It’s also surprisingly contemporary. Part of the Flat Cap boutique hotels group, The Vicarage has been completely refurbished leaving its period stylings intact but adding all the up-to-date touches that make a stay really special.
It’s the perfect place for a Cheshire getaway but it’s also close enough to Manchester and Liverpool to be an excellent destination for a Sunday drive…and a Sunday lunch.
The food at The Vicarage is excellent, based on the simple pleasure of quality local ingredients. As well as the renowned Sunday roast, you can expect to dine well on dishes like ox cheek pudding with mash, baby vegetables and a truffle and bone marrow sauce, a classic fish and chips with beer battered haddock or a steak from the grill.
We also love the Friday Fondue in the Vicar’s Tipi. That’s the thing about The Vicarage, it could be staid and stuffy but it’s actually really fun. Fondue in a tent, a sports bar. It’s a complete breath of fresh air. It’s good enough to take itself seriously, but it doesn’t.
