Manchester Harriers
Manchester Harriers and Athletics Club was established way back in 1886 and has some pretty impressive alumnae to its name. Club member Emily Voight won a gold medal in the London Olympics of 1908, and Ricky Wilde won gold for the 3000m at the 1970 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
The club started life in Fallowfield but now trains at Wythenshawe Park Athletics Track on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at SportCity on Mondays and Wednesdays. It’s for runners of all abilities – everyone aged seven and over is welcome. The club offers opportunities for track and field events, road running and cross country.
Members take part in local races such as the Manchester Marathon as well as leagues such as the North of England Track and Field League, and the Manchester Area Cross Country League.
Notably, there are also a number of events for seniors with sessions for veteran runners at Wythenshawe Park, sessions ran by the Over The Hill Gang branch of Manchester Harriers at Styal, and long weekend runs organised on an ad hoc basis.
