Sale Harriers
Sale Harriers is one of Greater Manchester’s biggest and oldest athletics clubs. It has been running, quite literally, for over a hundred years and although it is nominally based in Sale at Crossford Bridge, training sessions also take place in Wythenshawe Park and at Sportcity.
More than just a running club, Sale Harriers covers track and field too with everything from hurdles and pole vaulting to long jumps and throwing events.
The club has seen its fair share of success. With coaches for every discipline and age group, it’s known as somewhere for dedicated athletes to reach PBs and train for local and national events. Disabled athletes can join too with a range of different training sessions at Sportcity. There are social runs for the less elite amongst us but Sale Harriers doesn’t really have a couch-to-5k vibe.
They cover all kinds of racing: fell running, road running, and track running from sprints through to long distance. It’s not all serious either – Sale Harriers put on a cross country event that involves sprinting/scrambling over straw bales for junior members.
