Nantwich Brine Pool
Nantwich Brine Pool is the ideal summer cool-down option if you want a cheap dip but aren’t up for wild swimming.
It’s not wild at all. In fact it’s part of the local leisure centre with all the perks and pitfalls that entails. Yes, there are lifeguards, a cafe, changing rooms and hot showers – everything you need to make al fresco aquatics as convenient as possible. But don’t expect anything beyond basic – the cafe is more suited to grabbing a Twix than anything more substantial.
Nevertheless, Nantwich Brine Pool is a great shout on a summer day with a grassy area filled with sun loungers to relax in between lengths. There are a few lanes roped off for those who prefer to perfect their front crawl and the rest of the pool is left for those who just prefer to splash about.
And if you like a bit of history with your Speedos, Nantwich Brine Pool is the only inland brine pool in the country. There’s no smelly chlorine, just natural salty water supplied from a nearby brine spring.
With Cheshire’s saline culture right up there with Maldon and Anglesey, it’s not long before the county becomes lido central. Here’s hoping.
