Cuckoo
Like the interloping bird that gives it its name, Cuckoo was an odd-one-out when it first opened in Prestwich back in 2013. Since then a whole flock of likeminded, indie cafe-bars have landed in this suburb, but this is still the favourite for many.
It’s known for its simple menu of stone-baked sourdough pizzas with ‘red’ or ‘white’ toppings. The ‘Luca’ with anchovies, pine nuts, roasted garlic and capers, is an example of the former. On weekends, they also offer a small brunch menu including a full English. Cocktails are another strength. They stick to the classics but they do them well.
Cuckoo’s laidback, exposed brick and wood interior is an inviting setting for a Salford Roasters coffee in the day, or an espresso martini at night. The covered garden at the back is a hidden sunspot (with outdoor heaters, of course).
