Evelyn’s
Evelyn’s is a very clever restaurant. It’s from the chaps behind Mughli so expect a quality operation although it is very different to the standout star of Curry Mile.
It’s a light and leafy sort of place, both in the surroundings and on the plate. Evelyn’s offers a fresher, healthier take on dining out but despite that, it won’t leave you feeling like you’re at a well-being bootcamp. There are still things like a signature cheeseburger on the menu.
The Indian influence comes across in some of the spicing though for the main, Evelyn’s is a mash-up of food influences from across the globe, from Taiwanese fried chicken to Thai green curry.
Much of the menu is plant-based so dishes like beetroot salad with preserved lemon and tahini dressing rub up alongside options such as rib-eye steak with jalapeno chimmi-churri. In line with the clean-eating vibe they serve up health shots, smoothies and matcha teas alongside some excellent G&Ts and a strong selection of cocktails.
Brunches are interesting – there’s not a sausage in sight but instead you’ll find kedgeree, eggs shakshuka with feta and house-cured gravalax with labneh and harissa focaccia.
It’s (relatively) easy to find a good fry up or fix a dirty food craving but it’s much harder to find somewhere serving more nourishing meals without being po-faced about it. Evelyn’s is as cool as its other NQ counterparts but offers something a bit different.
