Peaberry Coffee House & Kitchen
Describing itself as a “coffee house and kitchen”, independent family-run business Peabody’s does a bit of everything: breakfast, brunch and big plates alongside coffees, cakes and cocktails.
It first opened in modest premises in Waterloo in 2017, then set up shop in the newly reinvigorated foodie hotspot that is the Albert Dock.
Sandwiches and salads reign supreme at lunchtime, from the likes of ginger beer-battered cod on toasted sourdough to a classic chicken and bacon Caesar. Flatbreads could include gorgonzola with fresh pear and crunchy apple, and burgers take in a garlic and herb-marinated halloumi and avocado number.
We can see the makings of a tapas-style sitting, with aromatic panko pork belly and salt and pepper cauli, or salmon gravlax and garlic and chilli king prawns with fresh focaccia on mopping duties, but if you’re properly hungry, head straight for the mains: pan-roasted lamb rump, braised beef short rib and Cumberland sausage hash are just three of the hearty choices available.
The cake cart changes daily, and is the perfect accompaniment to one of the many coffee choices. Peaberry’s is the place to go for your unicorn-flavoured ice cream, not bad alongside a loose leaf tea. Wines are listed too, and house cocktails include a dockside daiquiri.
