Procaffeinated

Cafes

Clean lines, stripped wood, potted greenery, local art, yoga brunch… these are just some of the calming factors at newly hip Chapel Street’s one-stop coffee shot shop Procaffeinated, where your daily caffeine fix will leave you refreshed rather than climbing the whitewashed walls.

Let’s start with a chat to the barista, and the specialty coffee offer includes hot or iced, and all kinds of choices, ranging from a chocolate-nutty blend courtesy Manchester’s Heart & Graft Coffee Roastery to a single origin fruity number from London’s Square Mile Coffee Roasters. You can also pick up the latter’s take-home bags, including the Colombian Zambrano (think strawberry, praline and rose), the Kenyan Chepsangor (clementine, honey and pineapple) and Colombian Las Brisas (similar, but more pear than pineapple).

Alternative and lactose-free milk is here, and countertop teamsters include vegan and gluten-free pistachio energy balls or the likes of flakey and buttery pastries in the shape of pains au chocolate or soft cinnamon knots by Half Dozen Other of Pot Kettle Black. Other oven-fresh treats include 4:1 sourdough bread freshly baked every day on site, available as carry-out or eat in, and perfect with the homemade chilli-infused garlic butter.

Behind Procaffeinated are Daniel Haralambous and partner Ilaria Criscuolo; the pair make all the bread as well as the brunch dishes from scratch, from hearty and healthy bowls (granola, vegan açai) to all manner of eggs on toast.

Their Mediterranean-inspired menu includes lemon-infused smashed avocado with house-made red sauce on that signature sourdough, toasted, teamed with either poached free range eggs and pumpkin seeds or feta and rocket.

Another toast-topper is goats cheese with honey gremolada, marinated courgette, poached eggs and walnuts, cured Italian speck can be added. The potato and egg tortilla is a modern spin on an authentic classic, developed in conjunction with Spanish specialists Casa Dario and featuring lemon-infused cherry tomatoes, red onions, rocket, chilli flakes and romesco sauce.

Daniel and Ilaria have teamed up with a couple of local suppliers of craft beer and natural, organic wines, and cocktails and smoothies (think super-fresh mango and pineapple) are also available. What’s more, the light and airy space is dog friendly
