Richmond Tea Rooms

Restaurant - British

If this isn’t an excuse to pop on your best frock (or bib’n’tucker), we don’t know what is. An award-winning Alice In Wonderland-themed dining experience is just asking for a bit of dress-up, especially when there’s finger food and afternoon tea for the taking.

Think freshly prepared sandwiches, scones and sweet treats – all individually made in house with flavours and fillings hand-picked by the team of chefs and piled onto shabby chic blue-and-white vintage crocks. A classic club sits alongside the likes of pulled beef and Swiss cheese, while cakes include your carrot or Victoria sponge plus Boston cream cake with lashings of chocolate ganache and velvety crème patissière. Top end, the Richmond Tea comes with a glass of bubbly while the Alice Tea is just homemade scones (with clotted cream and fruit preserve, of course) and a pot of tea of your choice – “our weird and wonderful array of exotic and rare teas from around the world stand side by side with traditional favourites ensuring that every taste is catered for”, says the menu. There are also light meals, such as quiche of the day with salad or Cheddar cheese and onion pie and skin-on chips, and vegan and gluten-free options are an option, just ask.

With popping pastel colours, maximalist drapes and faux foliage, a woodland-themed enchanted forest room and a garden-inspired orangery, you’ll think the cocktails have really gone to your head. Order another – “Wonderland awaits”, apparently.
