Permanent Orbit
This part of town isn’t known for clothes shopping but the existence of Permanent Orbit and its neighbour Clints, make it a detour worth taking. Situated in the ABC Building on Quay Street, this independent vintage store sells unisex clothing and homeware, all hand-picked by the owner Joe.
Joe worked as a buyer for a major sportswear brand before launching Permanent Orbit – the name echoes the extended lifecycle of the clothes he sells here. He’s got a good eye for the well-made and well-worn: the rails are stocked with paint-splashed Levis, thrashed Carhartt jackets, and faded band t-shirts from the seventies, eighties and nineties.
There’s some very cool items – rare tour and film merch, 1970s red line 501s. Head here for sought-after one-offs rather than a rummage through a kilo sale. Prices start at around £25 for a trucker cap and go up into the hundreds.
You can peruse the collection online or better yet, go in and have a look. If you’re into music, film or simply dressing with style, you’ll find lots to your liking.
Open: Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun
