SK1 Records
SK1 Records is more than just a record shop. It’s an important part of the town’s current buzz and it feels like the heart of Stockport’s music community.
It’s run by a musician, Joe McBride aka Synkro, and his clear love of music runs right through this place.
There isn’t a huge selection but you can buy, sell and trade here and it’s always good for a rummage. There’s a turntable to test out your potential purchases and collectors will appreciate the detailed info on vinyl and sleeve condition.
From a Nouvelle Vague re-issue to a three LP remastered edition of Leftfield’s Leftism, it’s a good place to find real gems. In general, the stock is skewed towards the more contemporary end of the musical spectrum with one of the best selections of electronica and experimental avant-garde albums.
It’s a place to chill out as much as a place for shopping with good coffee and a mezzanine space to relax. It’s not always laid-back though. SK1 Records is known for its street parties where the music takes over Little Underbank with guest DJs and an unmissable atmosphere.
