Rydal Mount
Rydal Mount is the family home of William Wordsworth and it is still owned and managed by his descendants today.
The famous Romantic poet lived here from 1813 until his death in 1850. You’ll find many of Wordsworth’s family treasures, heirlooms and portraits in the house. And you’ll get a sense of the natural beauty which inspired his work.
The gardens are gorgeous (buy a garden-only ticket for just £5). In fact, it was Wordsworth himself who designed much of the landscaping. There are fell-side terraces, rock pools, mature trees, colourful flowers (yes, including daffodils) and even an ancient mound.
Look out for seasonal events like the Christmas fair, summer music concerts, poetry readings and workshops.
