Portland Basin Museum
Step inside the restored nineteenth-century Ashton Canal Warehouse in Ashton-under-Lyne and you’ll find the Portland Basin Museum. With exciting, accessible exhibitions, it’s a great place to learn about the people, history and places that have shaped Tameside’s past.
Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of a bygone era on the 1920s street. Explore the area’s industrial heritage and discover what life was like down the mines or on the farm.
For younger children, there’s a fantastic educational play area, suitable for under-fives.
Entry to the Portland Basin Museum is free and the site is fully accessible. You can get there by bus, train or car, and parking is free to visitors.
