Salford Museum & Art Gallery

Museums

Salford Museum and Art Gallery was the UK’s first free public library when it opened in 1850. The building was formerly a private mansion built in the 1790s known as Lark Hill, which gave its name to Lark Hill Place, an immersive Victorian street within the museum.

The museum and gallery offers an exciting programme of permanent displays and changing exhibitions, housed in architecturally impressive Victorian surroundings. Events and activities complement the exhibitions. Why not try life drawing or jewellery making?

You can reach Salford Museum and Art Gallery by bus, car, train or on foot by wandering down Salford’s historical Chapel Street.

If you’ve got the time, why not check out Manchester Confidential’s guide to Chapel Street and make a day of it.
