The Ship & Mitre
The Ship & Mitre is an imposing pub with some lovely Art Deco touches both inside and out. There are stained glass skylights, polished wood and the bar reminds you of a ship – albeit one with 42 draught beers on board.
It’s a real beer lover’s pub and it’s an independent too. The team know what’s what when it comes to IPAs, stouts and amber ales. Besides fruit sours, dark ales and real ciders on tap, the fridge is packed with pretty cans of craft from respected indies.
The standout when it comes to spirits is the whisky selection with a good showing of single malts and top-end distilleries.
The One Pan Band provide the pub grub with a changing menu of one-pot wonders like beef scouse and lentil curry. It’s excellent quality – runner-up in the Observer Food Monthly awards – so pop along for some crispy slow-braised pork belly and a pint.
