The Whiskey Jar

Bars

Surely one of Manchester’s most inviting-looking bars, The Whiskey Jar gives you that warm, all-is-well feeling even before you’ve taken a sip of the elixirs behind the bar.

It’s housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building and makes the most of the exposed brickwork and big windows with Persian rugs, Chesterfield sofas, twinkly lights and hanging plants.

It’s known for its collection of 350-plus whiskies which includes sought-after labels such as Weller and Pappy Van Winkle as well as the big names. Alongside bottles from Scotland, Ireland, the US and Japan, you’ll find rarities from more unexpected destinations; India, Australia, Taiwan and France for example.

Not everyone comes here for the whisky though – this is a much-loved live music bar that has open mic nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the best of Manchester’s cover bands on Fridays and Saturdays.

So what happens on Thursdays, you may ask? Well, that’s gig night – you’ll find the likes of Charlotte OC on the line-up. Check their socials for details of who’s coming up.

During quieter times, you can chill with a game of darts or Connect 4, and keep yourself fed with tacos, nachos and sides delivered to your table.

Downstairs they have a versatile event space that’s perfect for parties, weddings, birthdays, launches and more. They also do whisky masterclasses if you’re looking for a group activity or team-building session.
