Greene’s Bistro & Parlour

Cafes
By Jo Milligan Writer

Greene’s Bistro & Parlour is the urban offshoot for the Saddleworth ice cream megastars. All things are relative in this neck of the woods – by ‘urban’ we mean it’s in a converted public toilet in a park in Uppermill.

This place really does put the wow into WC with an admittedly small but airy cafe that lets its green surroundings in with huge floor-to-ceiling windows and a retractable roof. It’s beautifully done out (and not just for a former lavatory).

With deckchairs in summer and take-away ice creams doing a roaring trade, it really is the place to be. Especially as the River Tame flows through the back of the King George V Park, offering the perfect spot for a bit of paddling with the fun of stepping stones (falling off is always more exciting) and a small pebbly ‘beach’ to launch into some shin-deep splashing.

Year round, the brunches are consistently good and the sweet treats can’t be bettered. It’s not a place for evening dining but if you’re looking for eggs any which way, açai bowls or triple decker club sandwiches, then this is the spot. It’s the pancakes and sundaes that are the real speciality though. Confidential Guides loves the kinderella stack with a childish glee. They even have a menu for dogs serving dog bacon and puppucinos.
