Hope & Smoke
Hope & Smoke, an independent ‘smokehouse, bar and grill’ on Allerton Road is a local go-to for barbecue food, burgers, and, on Sunday’s, their sell-out roast dinners.
The menu kicks off with a globe-trotting range of small plates. Go for the black pudding bon bons or salt and pepper sui mai.
Mains are largely well-seasoned steak, skewers and burgers with a few unexpected options amongst the favourites. The citrus and ginger salmon skewer with homemade flatbread and house salad, for example. Or the vegan-friendly and gluten-free celeriac steak.
Popular times include Sundays (the roasts are a winner) and the Thursday steak nights, which feature mouth-watering, pink sharer steaks and complimentary bottles of wine. On Fridays and Saturdays, they have live acoustic music.
This is a bar as well as a restaurant – and they’ve clearly got a cocktail geek in their team. Hidden amongst the classics is a Jasmine pea flower sour made with Bloom jasmine and rose gin, creme de violette, and butterfly pea flower. Enjoy it on their newly-installed side terrace, preferably while the sun is shining.
