Kabana

Kabana opened in the Northern Quarter in 1982, long before the cool young things moved in. Perhaps they were lured there by the heady scent of charcoal-grilled lamb chops sizzling over the hot coals.

Inside, it is basic with red vinyl booths and a takeaway aesthetic but people queue for the flavours not the fashionable interiors.

It’s those aformentioned lamb chops that draw people in, those and the excellent rice ‘n’ three offering.

On a chilly afternoon, get yourself a lamb karahi (on the bone for extra flavour) and it will warm the cockles of your heart.

There are plenty of Indian restaurants where you could pay double or even triple the price but you wouldn’t get that same Kabana glow.
