Pilgrim
What a journey it’s been so far for Basque-inspired restaurant Pilgrim. After beginning life as a pop-up in Dalston, London, Pilgrim won the BBC’s Million Pound Menu in 2019 and secured a permanent spot in Liverpool’s Duke Street Market. Michelin awarded it a Bib Gourmand soon after it opened, and locals loved it just as much as the food critics. Then founder Jamie Duffield was diagnosed with brain cancer, and the restaurant closed.
Jamie spent the following years in and out of surgery before relaunching Pilgrim in November 2025 at a new site on Allerton Road, alongside head chef Jack Williams.
Like the original, the new Pilgrim focuses on seasonal Spanish food inspired by the Camino de Santiago route. Its short, ever-changing menu is guided by the best produce the team can find each week, so you never know what will be on offer from one visit to the next.
Expect simple, accessible small plates centred around high-quality produce and open-fire cooking. Think charred leeks with romesco and toasted almonds, or huge Red Atlantic prawns in their shells, served with chilli and garlic. With inclusion in both the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide, it looks like Pilgrim is back on track after a difficult few years. Great news for the owners and the residents of Mossley Hill, who now have this neighbourhood cracker on their doorstep.
