Red Chilli Manchester Oxford Rd
A stylish, upmarket Chinese restaurant well placed to scoop up the students and gig-goers flowing out of the Academy over the road. Red Chilli is also very popular with Chinese diners – perhaps a more reassuring testament to the quality and authenticity of their cooking.
The extensive menu focuses largely on the fiery cuisine of Sichuan, hence the name. Alongside the chilli heat, expect plenty of ginger, garlic and bold, distinctive flavours.
The soft shell salt and pepper crab and the cold slices of beef come recommended. Adventurous types have plenty to explore: frogs legs, jelly fish, and pigs ears all feature on the menu. There’s plenty of more commonly consumed meats for the less bold, and a decent selection for vegetarians. There’s also a superb dim sum menu.
The decor is dramatic with lots of red and black and feature lighting. It makes a statement, much like the food.
