The Mews
The Mews is one of a clutch of new places to set up shop on Deansgate Mews, or ‘deli alley’ as the cool kids are calling it.
If you’ve not stumbled across this land of cured meats and artisan cheese yet, you’ll find it hidden between the Great Northern building and Deansgate itself. Deansgate Mews is the elevated, pedestrianised row of once empty units beyond The Life Centre. The most obvious way in is up the steps from Great Bridgewater Street, opposite The Hilton.
The Mews is primarily a bar rather than a dinner destination; somewhere you’d go for drinks with food on the side rather than the other way round. Their speciality is classic cocktails. A well-curated list focuses on ten standards including negronis, Long Island ice teas, and margaritas. If you’re seeking novelty rather than tradition, order the twisted versions.
They also serve an impressive range of vegan wines with nine red and nine white to choose from. Food-wise, you can graze on charcuterie sharing boards sourced from the Crafty Cheese Man, and nibbles such as pate and olives.
Situated pretty much at its feet, The Mews is well positioned to tempt in the Hilton’s guests who can see the sun-trap outdoor tables from their hotel rooms. Unfortunately, it’s not very visible to the rest of the city. Once word gets out, this stretch of new venues will have ‘hidden gem’ written all over it.
