The Strawbury Duck
The Strawbury Duck is a traditional country pub near Entwistle reservoir with a solid reputation amongst Boltonians for its home-cooked food.
Ingredients are as local as they get. Their pork, for example, comes from their own saddleback pigs which they rear on their farm two miles down the road at Belmont. They also use local meats from Airey’s Farm, local cheeses from Proctor’s in Chipping, and Goosnargh poultry.
It’s a good choice if you want proper Lancashire food such as Morecambe Bay shrimps, Bury black pudding, and cheese and onion pie. Classics from further afield include chicken carbonara, vegetable curry, and southern fried chicken.
The surrounding landscape is a big draw for The Strawbury Duck. Head here after a stroll around the reservoir – they actively welcome walkers, cyclists, and well-behaved dogs. With an open fire and exposed beams, it’s got the country pub vibe down to a T.
And if you can’t face heading back to the city, you can book a room to stay over. There’s plenty more to explore outside (and on the menu) the next day.
