Out of the Blue
Out of the Blue manages to making selling fish cool. It’s a lovely shop with sea-inspired abstract paintings, changing window art, boatloads of shimmering, clear-eyed fresh fish and some of the friendliest staff you’ll find.
Where possible, fish is local, sustainable and seasonal, with the haul from British inshore fleets laid out on the crushed ice. As well as the ever popular salmon and cod, you’ll find everything from sea urchins to turbot here. You know where it’s from too with Faroese salmon and Cornish John Dory on display.
With multiple deliveries a day, the fish is always super-fresh, almost as if it’s going to swim away. This peak condition produce means it’s a good place to order your sushi platters. You can also buy freshly-shucked oysters to eat at the tables outside with a bit of Tabasco.
It’s not just fish. There’s also a small collection of fruit and veg for serving alongside your seafood, some poultry and game and a good selection of store cupboard ingredients specialising in Italian and Japanese cuisine.
