Sifters
Sifters is the legendary record shop immortalised in Shakermaker. Apparently Noel Gallagher used to spend his pocket money here. If so, he’ll have picked up a whole stack of vinyl because there are bargains aplenty to be had at Sifters.
If you like a bit of Easy Listening, you can find LPs by greats like Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline and Shirley Bassey for just 50p a pop. There’s a Collector’s Corner where you’ll find albums from the rock canon. Think Shaved Fish by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band, Layla by Derek and the Dominoes and plenty of Bowie, all at around the £10-£20 mark.
Sifting through the rest of the stock is a bit like being in Woolworths on a Saturday afternoon in the eighties; vinyl from the likes of Johnny Hates Jazz, Richard Marx and London Boys fills the shelves. If that’s your thing, go for it. If you’re looking for something more curated and cool, then try somewhere else or just enjoy the pleasure of the browse.
Seek and ye shall find. Maybe.
