At the point Lark Lane tips out onto busy Aigburth Road, you’ll find one of Liverpool’s best churrascaria, the cosy Churrasco Steakhouse, where top-notch British meat and homemade recipes are given the unique lava steak stone treatment, seeing you cook your own tea.

The Portuguese and Spanish name for barbecuing different cuts of beef, lamb, pork and chicken over a charcoal fire, churrasco is a cooking technique prominent in the cuisine of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The result? Succulent tender meats packed with flavour. Here, this includes pork belly ribs, slow roasted to fall off the bone then finished on the grill for extra flavour, and chicken wings, roasted then charred and teamed with a choice of BBQ, blue cheese or salt and pepper. The house burger can be double or single, with a 7oz juicy homemade patty topped with smoked streaky bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, sweet pickles and garlic aioli and stuffed in a brioche bun, while the chicken version sees zesty breast grilled then finished with a rich tahini sauce and tomato and cucumber salsa. But this is a steakhouse, we hear you cry. Fear not, our friends. There’s 8oz flat iron, 12oz ribeye, 10oz fillet, 20oz tomahawk for one or 37oz to share; with a choice of peppercorn, chestnut mushroom, chimichurri and Malbec red wine sauces, various sides and extras such as onion rings, slaw or prawns if you fancy a bit of surf’n’turf. There’s also 20oz chateaubriand, sufficient for two, and served with thyme and garlic mushrooms, chunky chips and a rocket and Parmesan side salad. The steak stone experience involves a 10oz fillet served raw for you to cook to your liking on a 350 degree lava stone, and keeping it hot until the last bite. And while you’re busy with your barbecue, even your veggie friends don’t go hungry, with halloumi fries tossed in a sumac power and dressed with zaatar yogurt and pomegranate, creamy garlic and Parmesan and mozzarella mushrooms served with artisan bread, cauliflower cheese, grilled corn tossed in a homemade jerk butter, and a substantial veggie burger with grilled halloumi.

Sweet choices, if you have room, include key lime pie and the baked cheesecake of the day, all created exclusively for the restaurant by indie baker Desserts by Dre. All the cocktails are here, plus beers and some reasonably priced wines.
