Mumbai to London Cafe
Mumbai to London Cafe doesn’t look like much from the outside (or the inside) but don’t let that fool you; there is some fantastic food to be found in this lowkey, licensed restaurant and takeaway in Droylsden.
On the chalkboard menu you’ll find a mix of street food (chaats, samosas, puris), salads, curries, and grill dishes, including a decent range for vegetarians. If you’re looking for a snack, opt for a chole frankie, a wrap filled with spiced chickpeas and served with kimchi and minty green chutney, or a dish of chicken momo – steamed dumplings with a home-made dipping sauce. Popular mains include the Dishoom-inspired chicken ruby, and the comforting chana masala.
The Mumbai-born owner Vinod Singh worked in five star hotels in India before moving to the UK, where he became a development chef at the much-lauded Dishoom group of restaurants. His experience is reflected in the authentic flavours and imaginative dishes at Mumbai to London but, happily, not in the prices. It’s good value, making it all the more tempting to order everything on the menu.
