The Confidentials editorial team has taken a good look at Manchester’s restaurant and bar offering and found some old-timers deserving of a listing on our site as well as a few exciting newbies.
Armenian Taverna has been overlooking Albert Square since the seventies and was brought back to our attention by the owners of Bundobust a few weeks ago. Since then we’ve visited a few times and can confirm it’s brilliant. Read more about Armenian Taverna, as well as our impartial review in its new listing.
Barrio is bringing impressively loaded plates of tacos to the table in Chorlton, while Colleen’s opened in Ramsbottom a couple of months ago to much excitement from locals (and even more from us) – check out its steak frites.
Popular pasta joint, Sugo opened its third site over in Sale recently and Nigel Haworth’s The Three Fishes is gaining some much-deserved attention over in Lancashire.

With a gentle gradient throughout and a lowered bar, 53two is one of Manchester’s most inclusive and accessible venues. Half bar and cafe, half performance area, this unique space under Manchester’s Grade II* listed railway arches is the perfect stop for a drink and a snack before hitting the town or the local theatres – including the one in-house.

With its plush velvet chairs and cushions and pink and green hues du jour, Colleen’s cuts a smart jib on Rammy’s main drag, and the locally sourced ingredients and menus created alongside the seasons adds to the contemporary feel of this neighbourhood restaurant.
