Insitu
Insitu isn’t your average antiques shop; it specialises in sourcing in vaster vintage pieces like huge steel columns – a relic of Manchester Central Station – or stained glass church windows.
They take requests too. If you’re hunting down an original Art Deco porcelain sink or need to find some Edwardian staircase spindles, the team at Insitu will get on the case for you.
It’s best to get on their mailing list so you can see what’s come in before it goes because, trust us, those mid-century space age acrylic pendant lamps are going to fly out like super-cool UFOs.
Many of the items come over from Germany so if you like Mittel-European style, from beer hall benches to enamel street signs, it’s a good place to browse.
There’s a focus on furniture design with collectable names from the industry represented. It’s not a Chippendale and Hepplewhite sort of place but there are highly-sought-after modern classics. You’ll have to pay for them. Insitu is about style cachet rather than huge savings.
