Kimpton Clocktower Hotel
If you want to stay somewhere that’s luxurious and glamorous – but also distinctly Mancunian, this has to be the place. The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Oxford Road is in the former Refuge Assurance building designed by Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse, whose handiwork also includes Manchester Town Hall. Its clocktower is an iconic feature of the city’s skyline – but it’s what lies inside that makes this hotel really stand out.
The palatial marble foyer, topped with a glass dome, sets the scene but doesn’t steal the show. There’s also the beautiful Refuge restaurant and bar to consider, and numerous ornate lounges in the Renaissance Gothic style.
The rooms are equally distinctive with glazed brickwork, oversized windows, double-height ceilings and contemporary touches reflecting the pop culture of modern-day Manchester.
Location-wise, it’s hard to beat. It’s just a few minutes walk from Oxford Road station, and is well placed for exploring all parts of the city centre.
