If you don’t want your kids’ abiding memory of Christmas 2025 to be endless hours spent on Minecraft in their room, this list is for you. It has plenty of suggestions for what to do in and around Manchester over the school holidays, from traditional pantos to glittering light displays.
December can be hard on the finances but there are free options like a winter festival at Ordsall Hall, the Shaun the Sheep sculpture trail in the city centre, and Rumpelstiltskin at Contact Theatre which offers no-questions-asked discounts on certain performances with its pinch pricing.
Or just get out and enjoy the fresh air. Set the kids a winter scavenger hunt to get them engaged or find a place to play hide and seek. Check out our list of scenic walks near Manchester for ideas on where to go.
