University of Liverpool Sports and Fitness Centre
One of the good things about living in a university city is the sports facilities that go hand-in-hand with a big student population.
The University of Liverpool Sports and Fitness Centre is open to everyone, not just students and university staff. Its central location next to the Metropolitan Cathedral, and its decent-sized swimming pool bring in plenty of people from outside campus. (If you’re looking for a gym with a pool in Liverpool city centre, it’s one of your best options).
The huge complex is home to a well equipped and well maintained gym, a couple of studios for classes, two sports halls for team sports and racket sports, four squash courts, and an outdoor gym. In September 2024, they added an impressive climbing wall and a bouldering wall, both of which will be included in the membership fee from 2025.
The gym floor is busiest in the mornings before lectures start, and obviously it’s a lot quieter throughout when the students have gone home for the holidays. It does close earlier though outside of term-time, so that’s something to consider if you’re a late evening exerciser.
