Etçi Mehmet

Open since the end of 2018, Etçi Mehmet’s carefully prepared, predominantly meat dishes are flame grilled or oven roasted for the best flavour, with steaks a speciality and carved table side by your server.

AKA “your family beef station”, Etçi Mehmet is a no-nonsense Turkish steakhouse – a handful of salads, some mezze dips and a halloumi burger are the only concessions to vegetarians; the rest of the menu is meat (halal): beef, lamb, a notion of chicken and a nod to seafood, in the form of a king prawn platter and some seabass fillets served with mash. From the oven, lamb neck or shoulder or asado beef is slow cooked for eight hours at least before the super-tender dish is assembled at your table and served with Turkish bread and salad. There’s a range of burgers, including four types of beef, each in a sesame brioche bun with skin-on chips, and specials include Turkish meatballs and iskender: the kebab of kebabs, made with beef medallion fillets, spicy tomato sauce and cooling Turkish yoghurt. Steaks, well. There’s so much choice, we wouldn’t know where to start, but each and every one of them is dry aged for 28 days then cooked on natural charcoal and sprinkled with rock salt and a sprig of rosemary before leaving the pass. You can even get one covered in 24 carat gold leaf.

Precious metals also put in an appearance on the dessert menu, with gold baklava “perfect for celebrations”. Other sweets include cheesecakes and brownies, and while there’s no alcohol, you could opt for an after-dinner shisha on the terrace.
